Hammer Seeks More Chills With 'The Quiet Ones'

Writer-director John Pogue takes the reins of the legendary film studio's next project

Having just released "The Woman In Black," Hammer is now readying its next supernatural picture "The Quiet Ones."

John G. Pogue ("Quarantine 2: Terminal") penned the film and will direct, with James Gay-Rees ("Senna," "Exit Through The Gift Shop") serving as producer.

Inspired by true events, the film centers on an unorthodox professor who leads his best students on a dangerous experiment to create a poltergeist. Based on the theory that paranormal activity is caused by human negative energy, the group performs a series of tests on a young patient. pushing her to the edge of sanity as a force more terrifying and evil than they ever could have imagined awakens.

“'The Quiet Ones' will take its audience on a thrilling ride of jumps, scares and eerie tingles, which combined with set-pieces of unbearable tension will propel them through the shadowy chambers that imprison the tortured mind," Pogue said. "It’s a dark and claustrophobic picture, which will portray how human desire can become trapped in an insidious world of its own creation and how you should always … be careful what you wish for.”

The film is currently in pre-production and will lens in May in South Africa.

Tobin Armbrust, Exclusive Media’s president of worldwide production and acquisitions, will oversee production alongside Shira Rockowitz, director of development.

International sales for the film will kick off at the upcoming European Film Market.

Hammer's "The Woman In Black," which stars Daniel Radcliffe, was released last weekend on 3,000 screens and earned $21 million.

Originally founded in 1934, the British film studio Hammer has delivered a variety of popular horror films over the years, including "Dracula," "Frankenstein Created Woman" and "The Vampire Lovers." Hammer has been part of the global filmed entertainment company Exclusive Media Group since 2008.
